Nairobi: Somali pirates release Marshall-flagged ship

EU Naval Force spokesman Paddy O'Kennedy said the MV Motivator was released by the gunmen on Sunday, approximately 160 nautical miles southwest of the island of Socotra near to the coast of Somalia.
According to the ship's Greek owners, the crew are reported to be as well as could be expected given the circumstances.

The pirates are using larger pirated vessels as 'motherships' to extend their range in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden and most of hijackings end without casualties when a ransom has been paid, but often after several months of negotiations
The Horn of Africa nation has been without a functioning government since 1991, and remains one of the world's most violent and lawless countries.
Heavily armed Somali pirates have released Marshall Islands-flagged vessel which was hijacked earlier in July last year with 18 Filipino nationals, the office of the European Union anti-piracy mission said on Monday. TheAfricanTeam
