Nairobi: Gazette Notice on Mombasa Road Land Acquisition under Review

The Government Spokeman Dr. Alfred Mutua

The Government is reviewing the land acquisition gazette notice in light of developments that have taken place along the road since the plans were initiated. The planned acquisition has been overtaken by events rendering some sections of the Gazette Notice obsolete
Therefore, there should not be any panic because the Government does not intend to pull down some of the new developments on the highway
What the Gazette Notice indicated was part of a 2006 plan for land acquisition on Mombasa road in preparation for the Nairobi Toll Road project. However, the project has been delayed due to protracted negotiations and since then new developments have taken place on the road. As it stands, acquisition of some of the sections would be too expensive to the Government and a huge burden to the tax payer.

The Government encourages Kenyans, and especially affected parties, not to read ill motive but to understand that the Government has to acquire land to enable it to develop vital infrastructure in our country.

A review of the acquisition notices is currently being undertaken by the concerned ministries and details will be made public in due course.

PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS SECRETARY &
GOVERNMENT SPOKESPERSON
