NAIROBI:HORN OF AFRICA EMERGENCY APPEAL!

‘O you who believe! Fear Allah and let every soul consider what it has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do (59: 18)

‘Your wealth and your children are only a trial, but with Allah is a great reward. So fear Allah as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend; it is better for yourselves. And whoever is saved from the greediness of his soul, then those are the successful ones. If you loan to Allah a goodly loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is Most Appreciative, Most Forbearing. (64: 15-17)

The humanitarian crisis unfolding in the horn of Africa is frightening. The successive rainfall failures in this region have resulted into the worst drought in 60 years, this has caused a massive loss of livestock; the main source of livelihood of the pastoralist communities in the region.

 Food shortages and rising food prices are causing severe malnutrition among the general population, particularly affecting children worst of all. Unless urgent national and international intervention is put in place, the humanitarian crisis resulting from the drought could rapidly turn into famine on a scale not seen in recent years.

The lack of security in Somalia has made the crisis even worse by causing massive displacement of the population in southern Somalia, who are then fleeing into Kenya to seek refuge.

North Eastern Kenya has been particularly affected by this influx of internally displaced people from southern Somalia. The increased number of people is putting enormous pressure on the region already reeling from the effect of drought and the high cost of food.

GENCAD International is on the ground offering assistance. However, without urgent support from well-wishers it is difficult for us to reach a large number of the population in remote areas.

We are appealing for donations to attend to the needy in Northern Kenya. The donations will be spent entirely on the provision of food and water for the most needy among the inhabitants of Northern Eastern Kenya. GENCAD International has the required local knowledge and networks to target the intervention to areas with the most need successfully.
