NAIROBI:National Elections Board conducts voter education to candidates in the party elections

ODM’S NATIONAL ELECTIONS BOARD EMBARKS ON CIVIC EDUCATION

The National Elections Board of the Orange Democratic Movement – ODM has today embarked on the voter sensitization forums ahead of the much awaited party elections scheduled for the 27th-30th of May this year.

The Board which last held consultative forums in Coast and Western regions in March this year, is today holding similar forums Nyanza and Eastern regions to brainstorm with prospective candidates for various party positions at the grassroots level.

According to the Board Chairman Eng. Philip Okundi, the exercise is aimed at creating awareness amongst all the stakeholders on the need to carry out trouble-free elections for the better of the party as it prepares itself for the next general election.
The Board Members have split themselves into four teams and will traverse all parts of the country to provide civic education to all stakeholders in the party elections.

Okundi, Secretary to the Board Dr. Joseph Misoi and Commissioner Mr. Charles Welangai are currently holding a forum at the Kisumu Town Hall meeting stakeholders from Migori, Homabay, Kisumu and Siaya Counties while Commissioners Mr. Paul Mbatha, Mrs. Judy Pareno and Councillor Hellen Katangie are holding a similar forum in Machakos meeting stakeholders from Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni Counties at the Machakos Social Hall.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 18th), similar forums will be held in Kisii at the Gusii County Hall for stakeholders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties and in Embu at the Cannon House for stakeholders from Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties.  

The ODM Executive Director Ms. Janet Ong’era urged all the stakeholders to turn up in large numbers for these forums saying they are very important. She said the Board will use the occasion to teach all the prospective candidates on the procedures to be used during the elections.

She said the elections will be used to prepare the party to next year’s General Election.
