Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta is calling for renewed unity between
the church and politicians saying such a move would make Kenya a
global economic powerhouse.

Kenyatta who was addressing a congregation of Anglican Church Members
in Kanyuambora area, in Siakogo Constituency, Embu County, argued that
the Church and politicians had the ability to create national harmony
through sermons and speeches that rose beyond tribalism

“We can make Kenya the envy of the world, by transforming not only to
an island of Peace but also an island of hope for the entire region,”
Kenyatta said.

Earlier during the sermon, The Archbishop of Canterbury Rt Hon. Rowan
Williams urged Kenyans to look beyond their little tribal cocoons into
the national composition of its people saying that was the only way to
foster development in the country.

“Even in Britain we have the issue of tribes since we have the Welsh,
where I belong, but what has made us maintain a spirit of togetherness
is the ability to look beyond our tribes and live together as people
of one Nation,” The Archbishop said.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga on his part challenged the congregation in
Eastern Province to learn to vote for other communities during
elections.

“If Obama vied for President in Kenya, you people (of Eastern) would
not vote for him because he is Luo and you would say he is a kihii
(uncircumcised) man,” Raila said.

Siakago MP Lenny Kivuti caused laughter when he urged the global
leader of Anglicans to ask the Queen to come to Kenya and lead a
harambee aimed at raising Shs.7 billion required to complete the
project.

“I am sending you to the Queen, first take our greetings, then ask her
to come to this place and lead us in a harambee to raise funds to
complete this project and because we know she loves the church that
would be a good chance to come to Africa and Kenya especially, since
we even provided the grounds for the honeymoon,” Kivuti said.
